Meet Yvette Steenson: Founder and Health and Safety Enthusiast
Yvette Steenson, StarSafe’s founder, has always believed that health and safety is a basic human right—and that it should be easy to achieve. With a background in risk assessment, and the construction sector, Yvette’s passion for simplifying safety led her to create StarSafety 2016.
“Health and safety don’t have to be overwhelming,” says Yvette. “It’s about integrating simple, effective practices into your workday, turning compliance into an opportunity to grow and thrive.”
Yvette has always been risk-averse from the start, gaining expertise in risk assessment before completing her MBA in 2010. Working with the construction sector during the devastating Christchurch earthquake disaster, Yvette recognised a big gap in the trade industry for practical, user-friendly, health and safety solutions.
Starting a health and safety consulting firm in 2016, and from there made the decision to develop a health and safety software platform tailored to the needs of tradies and SME’s Construction businesses across New Zealand. That is when the StarSafe software platform was created. Spending time on the ground and on the worksites, I understand what it takes to get the job done.
Today, Yvette works closely with businesses to ensure compliance with HSWA 2015 legislation, helping teams create safer, smarter workplaces.
